WHO WE ARE

Mauro Girella

mauro_girellaI was born here in Rome, like my father and my ancestors for at least five generations. I am a Licensed Professional Tourist Guide for Rome and its Province. My working experience is really diversified: I’ve worked for the Army, in Education, on the NYSE, in Advertising, Financial Control, as an official Car Dealer, before turning my interest to tourism. In 1969 I went to the university of Rome to become an Art Historian, and in 1997 to the Pontifical University of the Lateran to get a B.A. in History of Religions and Arts. I am a Tour Guide since the year 2000 and I think that Rome is the most exciting city in the world not only for a Tour Guide but also for every tourist with just a little interest in history or archaeology, or arts, because only “The Eternal City” may boasts more than 2,800 years of history. And what history! Capital of the great Roman Empire, capital of the Christianity and Papacy, capital of Italy. As a native and as a professional guide, I am proud and happy to show – every day – the beauties and to unveil the secrets of the most beautiful, rich in works-of-art, intriguing city in the world. I work with Diplomatic Corps, Incentive Tours, Cruise Lines, Sport Teams, Pilgrimage Groups, Schools, although I normally prefer individual clients, like couples or families, with whom a more personal, customized, friendly relationship may be established.

Francesca Trollo

francesca_troiloBorn and educated in Rome, I’ve got a Degree in Modern Languages (with a Minor in Art History) at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. In order to practice those languages, I started working as a Tour Manager mainly for American student groups around Europe about 15 years ago. Then my love for the Eternal City brought me to settle here: I got my Licence as a Local Tourist Guide in 2001 and have been happily working as such since. I lead guided tours in English and French (besides Italian, of course), families and children are welcome. Italian Opera and wine tasting are among “my favourite things” as well as travelling and diving. I’m looking forward to sharing my City with you!

Fabio Pinelli

fabio_pinelliAttentive and understanding towards cultural differences and needs. Educated to degree level with a major in Art History; I have studied the symbols and the political issues which underline most of the renaissance and baroque artworks. 10 years experience of managing Art History tours for English and German speaking people across Rome gave me the confidence to deal with people at all levels in a diplomatic, informative and understanding manner. I write critiques on contemporary artists and for a number of art exhibitions in Rome. For critiques (in Italian) please go to: www.artapartofculture.net

Isabella Pompei

isabella_pompeiBorn in Rome, I read my history on its stones, I see poems on the walls faded by the sun, I still feel like a wanderer who likes spending the day on the streets of a town that I know so deeply to know that it can always offer a new exciting experience When I was a child my parents brought me to any important or even unknown place in Rome and besides tales they also told me about the myths, the heroes and the life of famous artists. Later on, this passion brought me to get a degree in Art at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and a Master in Art (3 years); I attended two courses in the Vatican on their collections and the history of the Church. I still keep studying and writing about art. My goal is to share my passion for Rome art and “slow living” with you and make you feel at home, close to this world, even if you come from far far away. I would like to have many children among my guests; their questions are sometimes the most difficult ones, even if I have been a guide since 1990!

Annalivia Villa

annalivia_villaI was born in Rome and my family has been living here since my grandfather was one of the Palatine honour guard of the pope. I have a Master degree of Art History and I’m a tour guide since 1999.

I’ve been working as Art history teacher and guide for the National Fine Arts Ministry and the Municipality of Rome for about 20 years. I really never get bored of Rome, and leading tours gives me the opportunity of feeling a symphatetic emotion through people who get in touch with this city so rich in culture and history. In my time off of work I enjoy playing tennis and singing as soprano in a small chamber choir.
